Workers protest at MG Rover plant

Hundreds of former employees of collapsed car firm MG Rover are attending a rally today at the firm’s Longbridge plant in Birmingham.

Organisers have stressed that the event is not political, but is being held to ensure that the plight of redundant Rover staff and their families is kept in the public eye.

The Bishop of Birmingham was among those who were expected to attend today’s rally.

MG Rover went into administration last month, following the breakdown of a possible deal with Chinese car manufacturers, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). Around 5,000 staff were made redundant following the collapse of the deal.
