Beckhams to sue former nanny over marriage allegations

David and Victoria Beckham are to sue their former nanny after allegations she made about their marriage in the ‘News of the World’.

A spokesperson for the couple said that they would be launching legal proceedings against Abbie Gibson for breach of confidence.

The couple will also take legal action against the paper over the article, which appeared in Sunday’s edition.

The Beckhams had unsuccessfully tried get an injunction banning publication of the story at the High Court on Saturday night. They claimed that Ms Gibson had breached a confidentiality contract, which they said required Ms Gibson not to comment on the private life of the Beckhams.

The News of the World had argued that the story was in the public interest and the judge ruled in the paper’s favour.

It is the second time in a year that the Beckhams have launched legal proceedings against the paper. The couple began legal action against the News of the World over claims made by David Beckahm’s former PA, Rebecca Loos that she had an affair with the footballer.

The News of the World issued a statement saying that they were “surprised” about the Beckhams decision to expand their libel action against the paper and said that they would “vigorously defend” such an action.
