Police shoot man in Glasgow
Police have shot and seriously injured a man in Glasgow.
It has been reported that the man appeared to have been unarmed.
The incident occurred in the Bridgeton area of the city last night, around 8pm, when the man allegedly confronted two police officers in a patrol car, as though he was carrying a gun. The man ran into Glasgow Green and crossed a bridge over the River Clyde, before he was eventually confronted in the New Gorbals area and shot by a police marksman.
He is now in a serious, but stable condition in the Victoria Infirmary. No-one else was injured.
Some reports have claimed that the man had an umbrella rolled in a jacket, which he was carrying like a shotgun, but these have not been confirmed.
Around 30 police officers conducted a search of the area around 1am this morning, but there are no reports of a weapon being discovered.
An investigation into the incident and the use of firearms will be carried out by a chief officer from another police force, Strathclyde police have confirmed. This procedure is in accordance with guidance from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), which sets out the procedures and rules governing the use of firearms by police forces.
