Forensic tests confirm identity of Geeson murder suspect
The man who died in a fall from a Glasgow hotel window on Saturday morning, has been confirmed as the man Cambridgeshire police were seeking to question about the murder of student, Sally Geeson.
Lance Corporal, David Atkinson, 31, was found outside the Corus Hotel, on Glasgow's Argyle Street, around 4:30am on Saturday. He had reportedly set himself on fire, before apparently jumping from an upper floor window of the hotel.
Strathclyde police have said they are not treating L/Cpl Atkinson's death as suspicious.
Sally Geeson, from Brookfields, Cambridgeshire, was last seen going to a takeaway around 1am on New Year's Day, following a night out at the Avery bar in Cambridgeshire. Shortly afterwards, a series of text messages were sent from her mobile phone, asking for help and saying that she had got into a car with 'someone'.
Her flatmate reported her missing on 8pm on New Year's Day, after she failed to return home.
The body of the 22-year-old forensics student was discovered on Friday in the American Military cemetery in Madingly, near Cambridgeshire.
A post mortem conducted at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridgeshire, revealed that she had been asphyxiated. Further tests are being carried out to determine whether she had been sexually assaulted. The results of the tests are expected within days.
