UK travel figures on the rise

UK residents are continuing to travel further afield compared with a year ago, new figures have revealed.

According to National Statistics, the number of visits to North America has risen by 1%, to 4.7 million, and to other parts of the world by 21% to 9.5 million. This compares with a fall of 1%, to 48.6 million, in the number of visits to Western Europe over the same period.

By contrast, over the same period, visits by overseas residents to the UK rose by 11% to 27 million and these were evenly divided across all parts of the world. Visits from residents of Western Europe increased by 10%, visits from North America by 10%, and from other parts of the world by 15%.

The number of visits to the UK by overseas residents increased by 1% to 6.7 million during August to October 2004, compared with the previous three months. However spending remained broadly the same at £3.2 billion.

Over the same period, the number of visits and spending overseas by UK residents also rose 1% to 15.7 million visits, while the associated spending increased by 2% to £7.4 billion.

UK visits abroad on the increase
Visits abroad by UK residents rose by 6% during the 12 months ending May 2005, to 65.5 million, according to figures published today by the Office for National Statistics. Visits to Western Europe increased by 2% (at 49.9 million), North America increased by 17% (to 5.1 million) and to other parts of the world by 23% (to 10.6 million).

Visits to UK museums rise by 11m from 2001
More people are taking advantage of free admission to museums and galleries in England, according to new figures out today. Visits have risen by nearly 11 million since the introduction of the free admissions policy in December 2001. There were 5.3 million extra visitors in the first year, and an extra 5.6 million last year.

Number Of Tourists To UK Falls
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that despite the Olympics the number of visitors to the UK fell in August, but the amount they spent rose. Overseas residents made three million visits to the UK in the month, down 5% from August 2011, according to the ONS.
