Prime Minister pays tribute to fallen Scots soldiers
The Prime Minister has paid tribute to the three British soldiers of the Black Watch Regiment who died in Iraq and offered his condolences to families.
He also expressed his pride and gratitude to the Black Watch for the "extraordinary and heroic" job they are doing in the country.
Their work is of "crucial importance" in making sure democratic elections can go ahead in Iraq, the Prime Minister added.
Holding successful elections in January was "the single most important element of bringing stability to Iraq and therefore stability to the wider Middle East".
"So it is absolutely crucial for the security of our own country that happens," he said.
Speaking last night, Lib Dems leader Charles Kennedy, said: "This is a terrible moment for the families and friends of the three soldiers who have died serving their country and I want to offer my deepest sympathy and condolences.
"For the close family of those who have been injured, this will be an extremely worrying and alarming time. I am sure that everyone will be thinking of them tonight."
