'Tainted Love' singer seriously hurt in road smash

Marc Almond, the British popstar who topped the charts with Soft Cell in the early 1980s, has been seriously injured in a road smash.

Almond was riding pillion passenger on a motorcycle in central London last night when it was involved in a collision with a car. He and the rider, who has not yet been named, were both rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The singer underwent emergency surgery last night and is now in intensive care. The BBC has reported that Mr Almond is now in a "stable condition".

Almond found lasting fame with Soft Cell when his remake of the Gloria Jones song 'Tainted Love' topped the charts in 1981.

16-Year-Old Seriously Injured In Cardiff Hit-And-Run
South Wales Police have appealed for witnesses to a hit-and-run incident in Cardiff that left a 16-year-old with a fractured skull. The incident occurred just before 19:00 on Tuesday at the junction of Clare Road and Tudor Street in Grangetown. The 16-year-old is a serious condition at University Hospital of Wales.

Four People Killed In Tanker Crash
An investigation has been launched after four people died in a multi-vehicle crash involving a fuel tanker, a car and a van, on the A44 road near Aberystwyth in Wales on Tuesday. An infant was also seriously injured and has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales.

Former KGB man remains seriously ill in hospital
Former KGB colonel Alexander Litvinenko remains seriously ill in hospital after apparently being poisoned, amid claims that he recently received email death threats. On Tuesday, Italian Mario Scaramella said that he met with Mr Litvinenko on November 1, when he first fell ill, and that both had discussed email death threats.
