Straw condemns 'ruthless' attack on Australian embassy
Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has condemned today's bomb attack on the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, as "ruthless".
It has been reported that at least nine people were killed and around 160 injured when the massive car bomb detonated outside the embassy building this morning.
The Australian premier John Howard said that all his country's embassy staff had been accounted for, but a number of Indonesian employees are missing.
Authorities suspect that the outrage was carried out by Islamic terror group Jemaah Islamiah – the same group which destroyed two Bali nightclubs in October 2002 killing 202 people.
Mr Straw contacted both the Australian and Indonesian governments earlier today to pass on sympathy and condolences.
"Such acts will only strengthen the determination of the international community to work together to fight the scourge of international terrorism," said Mr Straw.
