Terror suspects to be questioned for another week
Nine men who are being held as part of an anti-terror probe can be detained for a further seven days of questioning, Scotland Yard have said.
Police were today granted an order from magistrates permitting detention until August 17. The nine terror suspects are being held in Paddington Green police station. They are all reported to be of Asian ethnicity, but their nationalities have not be revealed as yet. Under the Terrorism Act, they can be held for up to two weeks.
Thirteen men were arrested by anti-terror officers in London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Lancashire on August 3 as part of a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation. The men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
Two have since been released without charge. Two others were de-arrested and then detained on other offences; Mohammed Dawoud, 19, of Willesden, London, has been remanded in custody, charged with possession of forged ID documents; and a 24-year-old man is being questioned on immigration-related matters and for alleged possession of forged of ID documents.
