West Brom striker jailed over fatal car smash
West Bromwich Albion striker Lee Hughes has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving at Coventry Crown Court today.
Hughes was found guilty of causing the death of Douglas Graham, a 56-year-old father of four in Meriden, West Midlands, on November 23 last year. The 28-year-old footballer had denied the charge.
Mr Graham, from Eastern Green in Coventry, died after the Renault Megane car he was a passenger in was involved in a collision with a silver Mercedes coupe in the early hours of the morning. Hughes failed to contact police for 36 hours after the accident.
The Baggies striker had previously admitted failing to stop after the collision and failing to report an accident.

Drink driving levels 'unacceptable'
The number of people continuing to drive under the influence of drink and drugs has been criticised as "unacceptable". The Association of Chief Police Officers said that drivers were continuing to drive while under the influence, in spite of "substantial and well-publicised risk to themselves, pedestrians and other road users".
