Multiple murder accused appears in court

A 34-year-old man charged with the murders of four people in north Yorkshire has appeared at Leeds Crown Court today.

Mark Hobson, of New Lane, Selby, is charged with the murders of 27-year-old twins, Claire and Diane Sanderson. He is accused of killing Claire Sanderson on July 7, and her sister Diane on July 17. The twins' bodies were discovered at a residence in Selby on July 18.

Mr Hobson is also accused of the murders of retired couple James Britton, 80, and Joan Britton, 82, in Strensall, on July 18.

Mr Hobson was remanded in custody to appear in court on December 10 when he is expected to enter a plea.

Ex-binman confesses to four murders
A former binman has today pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court to the murder of his girlfriend, her twin sister and an elderly couple. Mark Hobson, 35, from Selby, North Yorkshire, admitted murdering his girlfriend Claire Sanderson, her sister Diane, both 27, and James Britton and his wife, both in their eighties, in July last year.

Sunny Weather Boosts UK Sales
Sunny weather in July has been credited in part for aiding an economic boost within the retail industry. The findings were released today in a statistical bulletin by the Office for National Statistics. Estimates of retail sales for July showed continued growth in the quantity of bought goods.

House Prices Take September Dip
Data from Land Registry's House Price Index has revealed an annual price decrease of 2.6%. The average property value in England and Wales is now £162,109, representing a monthly change from August to September of 0.3% down. This continues the negative monthly price change seen in August of -0.1%.
