14 killed in Belgium gas explosion
At least 14 people have been killed and more than 200 injured following a gas explosion in Belgium this morning.
The blast occurred in the Ghislenghien industrial park near the town of Ath, 20 miles south-east of Brussels.
The BBC has reported that a number of people who were investigating a leak to gas pipeline died when the explosion occurred. The massive explosion scattered body parts and debris hundreds of metres away from the blast site.
A nearby motorway has been closed and residents in the surrounding area have been told to stay indoors and close their windows.
Soldiers and military helicopters have been sent to the scene to help ferry the injured to hospital.

Rescue efforts continue after Glasgow factory blast
Rescue efforts are continuing at the Glasgow plastics factory which was wrecked by a massive explosion this afternoon. Strathclyde police have said that 30 people were injured as a result of the incident which occurred at around midday today. Sixteen people are reported to have been trapped in the debris of the shattered building.

Iraq bombs leave more than 150 dead
More than 150 people have been killed in a series of bomb blasts in Iraq. In the deadliest attack, at least 115 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a market in Sadriyah. An hour before that blast, at least 30 people were killed in what is believed to have been an attack by a suicide bomber in a car at a police checkpoint in Sadr City.

A 36-year-old man and his 4-year-old daughter have survived a suspected gas explosion at their home in Southampton. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the end-of-terrace house in Howards Grove, in the Shirley area, was destroyed in an explosion at about 01:30 on Tuesday morning.

Shrewsbury Blast Inquiry Continues
Investigators today remained at the scene of a Shrewsbury explosion which injured 12 people early yesterday. Police said they were surprised no-one was killed when the suspected gas blast tore through a building on Bridge Street. One woman was airlifted to hospital following the explosion, while a man was treated for serious spinal injuries.

The death toll of a suicide bombing close to Moscow's Red Square has risen six, according to reports emerging from the Russian capital today. The explosion occurred this morning outside the National Hotel, only a few hundred metres away from the Kremlin, which houses the Russian parliament.
