Kluivert completes switch from Nou Camp to Newcastle

Dutch international striker Patrick Kluivert has completed his move to Newcastle from Barcelona after signing a three-year deal at a press conference at St James' Park.

Kluivert arrived at Newcaste Airport on Wednesday morning after agreeing personal terms, and he put pen to paper after undergoing a medical.

There were reports that the deal would see him arrive at St James' on a one-year loan from the Nou Camp, but manager Sir Bobby Robson confirmed it was a three-year deal.

Kluivert, who will wear the number 11 shirt left vacant by Gary Speed's switch to Bolton, said he was "delighted" to be at Newcastle after weeks of speculation.

"I'm very happy to sign for Newcastle United. I've been linked with Newcastle United on many occasions and it's good that I'm finally here now," said Kluivert.

"I have played in tough competitions in Italy and Spain, and now I look forward to playing in another tough league, the Premiership."

"I remember playing here for Barca when the fans at Newcastle clapped me as I left the pitch. That memory was good for me, and I thought of that when I considered the move here."

Kluivert said that he was now 100% fit and looking forward to the new season, which starts against Middlesborough on August 14.

"I hope to win some big prizes here and I think we can do that because there are some good young players here at the club," he added.
