Baghdad car bomb kills 11 and injures 40 more
At least 11 people have been killed and 40 more injured in a car bomb attack in central Baghdad, just outside the American controlled ‘green zone’.
The bomb exploded at 9.15am local time (0515 GMT) as workers queued to gain entrance to the tightly controlled district, which houses the US and UK embassies as well as Iraqi Interim Government offices.
Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi described the attack as “naked aggression against the Iraqi people” and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
A BBC reporter, who was among those awaiting security clearance, described the scene as carnage and said he witnessed at least four bodies dragged from flaming vehicles.
