Two further suspects released following police raids last week

Two of the men held following last week's police raids in relation to suspected terror activities in northern England have been freed without charge.

The two men, initially detained by police under the provisions of the Terrorism Act 2000, were released without being charged for terrorist offences. Police said that they were released on bail in relation to other inquiries, but were no longer being held for suspected terrorism related offences.

Five of the 10 people, described by police as being of north African or Kurdish origin, have so far been released.

The arrests in the Greater Manchester, Staffordshire and South Yorkshire areas were made as police conducted inquiries into suspected terrorist activities.

It is understood that police have permission to hold the remaining five people still being held until Thursday after which time they will have to be charged or police can apply for a extension for more time to question them.

One woman and two of the men held from last week's police raids were released at the weekend.
