'Bin Laden' tape offers truce to Europeans
An audio tape purported to be from Osama Bin Laden, which has been broadcast on two Arabic language news channels, has offered a truce to European governments if they withdraw their troops from Islamic territories.
The voice on the tape, which has been broadcast on the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya and Qatar-based Al Jazeera news channels, offered a "reconciliation initiative" to European governments that commit themselves to "not attacking Muslims or interfering in their affairs - including the US conspiracy on the greater Muslim world".
The "door of peace", during which withdrawals can be made, will be open for three months from today, according to the tape.
The CIA confirmed that the voice may well be that of Osama Bin Laden, and Al Jazeera had earlier said that the voice is similar to previous Bin Laden tapes they have aired – some of which US authorities believed to be genuine.
The speaker added: "Stop shedding our blood so as to preserve your blood. It is in your hands to apply this easy, yet difficult, formula. You know that the situation will expand and increase if you delay things.
"If this happens, do not blame us - blame yourselves."
However, the speaker promises that attacks will continue against the US and the "Zionist lobby". Revenge attacks were also pledged in response to the killing of the Hamas leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin in the Gaza Strip last month.
Once again the September 11 terror attacks, and the bombings in Madrid, were invoked as examples of "righteous" retaliation against Western "terrorism" in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine.
