Maxine Carr to face fraud and deception charges

Maxine Carr, the former girlfriend of Soham murderer Ian Huntley, could be prosecuted for a number of alleged deception offences and alleged fraudulent benefits claims, it has been reported today.

According to the BBC Online, Maxine Carr faces prosecution in relation to a dozen alleged offences occurring between 1996 and 2002.

A number of the charges relate to false information contained on CVs and job applications, it was reported.

Maxine Carr distances herself from Ian Huntley
During evidence to the Old Bailey today, Maxine Carr lashed out at her former boyfriend saying she would not take the blame for "what that thing in the box has done to me", referring to Ian Huntley. Ms Carr, 26, told the court that she had been forced to lie to police by her "very controlling" boyfriend.

Ian Huntley, the man accused of murdering two 10-year-old schoolgirls in Soham last August, has today admitted that he was responsible for the death of Jessica Chapman. Mr Huntley, who denies murdering the girls, was in the witness box at the Old Bailey today to give evidence during the second day of the defence case.

Maxine Carr in court over benefit fraud charges
Maxine Carr, the former girlfriend of Soham murderer Ian Huntley, has appeared before Peterborough magistrates court today charged with benefit fraud and lying on job applications. Carr is accused of fraudulently obtaining more than £3,300 in various bogus benefits claims and lying about her GCSE results in job applications.

Maxine Carr is released from prison
Maxine Carr, the former girlfriend of Soham murderer Ian Huntley, has been released from jail after serving a sentence for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. Carr, 27, was convicted in December of the conspiracy charge after it was found that she had lied to police investigating the murders of Sarah Wells and Jessica Chapman.

Tagging scheme could see Maxine Carr freed 'immediately'
Maxine Carr could be released from prison and placed on a tagging scheme immediately, the BBC has reported today. Maxine Carr was sentenced to three and a half years at the Old Bailey in December for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. She has now served 18 months in total, 16 of which were served on remand.
