Scottish AA jobs in question

The future for over 200 workers at one of the AA's Scottish offices were in the balance today over plans to close its Renfrewshire centre.

Company bosses say they plan to consult with employees and unions over its plans for the centre in Erskine, however it is hoped that most of the 237 jobs can be moved to other centres across the UK such as Birmingham, Newcastle and Manchester.

The AA said it was closing the centre following a recent "property review".

AA customer services director Simon Skinner said the company could not expect to retain their market position without changing with the times.

"The alternative would be to pass on higher running costs to our customers through price increases and reduce shareholder returns - neither of which would be acceptable," he said.
