Two soldiers and one child die in Iraqi bomb attacks

At least three people have been killed today as a result of separate attacks in and around the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Two US troops died and five were injured in separate bomb attacks, and an Iraqi child died following a blast at a primary school.

The rebels struck this morning when a patrol led by the US Armored Division was hit by a roadside bomb in the capital. One soldier died and another was injured.

A short time later, a second soldier was killed and four wounded when their patrol was targeted in Baquba, 35 miles north of Baghdad. Several arrests were made in a follow up operation.

Elsewhere in Baghdad, it has been reported that one child was killed and three others were injured when an explosion ripped through a primary school in a predominantly Shia area of the city.

Security chief killed in latest outbreak of Iraq violence
A senior advisor for the Iraqi government has been killed as violence continues to erupt in the capital of Baghdad. Wael al-Rubaei, director of operations at the National Security Ministry, was ambushed by gunmen and shot dead as he was driven to work. His driver was also killed.

Series of bomb attacks hit central Baghdad
US military sources have confirmed that four car bombs in the Iraqi capital Baghdad this morning have killed at least 26 people. The attacks occurred in quick succession and involved the Australian embassy, eastern Iraqi police headquarters, the international airport and an Iraqi military complex.

Dozens killed in Baghdad attacks
Another series of attacks on security forces in Baghdad has left as many as 24 people dead. At least 13 people were killed when a suicide bomber detonated a device at a recruitment centre for the Iraq National Guard. Ten Iraqi police were reported to have been killed during two separate gun attacks, in the west of the Iraqi capital.

Ten US soldiers killed in Baghdad attacks
Ten American soldiers have been killed and four wounded in attacks by insurgents in Iraq. Eight soldiers died in a car bomb attack in the Mahmudiya district of south Baghdad, around 11:30 am local time (7:30 am GMT). A US military spokesman confirmed the soldiers were US Army personnel. Two other American soldiers have also been killed in Iraq.

Hundreds killed as US troops battle with Iraqi militants
More than 35 US soldiers and 450 Iraqis are thought to have been killed in country-wide clashes between rebel militias and Coalition forces since the weekend, according to reports emerging from Iraq today. Around 300 Iraqis are thought to have been killed in Fallujah where US forces have been attempting to regain control of the city.
