10 die in Jerusalem suicide bomb
Ten people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack close to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's official residence in west Jerusalem today.
The suicide bomber detonated the device at around 9am local time while travelling on a bus. Dozens of passengers and pedestrians were injured.
It has been reported that the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which has links to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Foreign Secretary Jack Straw condemned the outrage.
"I strongly condemn this horrific attack, and extend my sympathies to the families of the victims and the wounded. There can be no possible justification for such appalling terrorist actions. I urge both sides to do everything possible to prevent such tragic loss of innocent lives," he said.
The bombing occurred at a time when Israel and Palestinian groups were engaging in a confidence-building prisoner exchange. Israeli authorities have said that the attack will have no bearing on the exchange.
