Bombers kill five worshippers at Iraqi mosque

Five people have been killed following an explosion at a mosque in the town of Baquba today.

The bombers struck as worshippers concluded prayers at the Shia mosque this afternoon. Around 40 people have also been reported injured in the blast.

The BBC has reported that the bombers attached gas cylinders and an explosive device to a bicycle which was placed against the wall of the mosque.

Baquba, a small town situated about 40 miles north of the capital Baghdad, is predominantly populated by Sunni muslims. It is part of the so-called Sunni Triangle in the north, an area where Saddam Hussein traditionally drew his most loyal support.

US authorities have begun an investigation into the outrage.
