Police appeal after teen and women shot in Leeds

Police in Leeds have appealed for information following two shootings in the Chapeltown area of the city last night.

In the first incident, a 15-year-old girl was shot in the right leg at around 8.15pm last night as she walked along Hamilton Terrace in the city. She was immediately taken to hospital, but was discharged early this morning.

She was wounded after a small red car pulled up alongside her and a shot was fired from inside the vehicle. It is believed that the weapon was a handgun.

Police are keen to speak to three black youths aged about 15 or 16 years old who were in close proximity to the girl when she was shot. Police have said that they are keeping "an open mind" as to whether the girl was the intended victim, as she can offer no explanation.

In the second incident at around 10.15pm, a 25-year-old woman was attacked at an address on Saville Drive in Leeds.

She taken forced into in a dark saloon car and taken to a location on the A58 Wetherby Road, near to junction of Carr Lane, where she was shot several times causing injuries mainly to her left leg. She flagged down a passing motorist who took her to hospital, where she remains in a "stable" condition. The only description of those inside the vehicle is three men wearing balaclavas.

Police believe that both incidents may be linked.

Det Superintendent Chris Gregg, who is leading the investigation said: "Any crime involving guns concerns us greatly and every effort is being made to hunt down those involved. We have spoken to both victims and while there doesn't appear to be any immediate connection between them, we can't exclude the possibility that the same men could be responsible."
