Top sprinter suspended after second positive sample confirmed
One of Britain's top athletes Dwain Chambers has been suspended from competition after a second sample was found to have traces of a banned substance, UK Athletics confirmed today in a statement.
UK Athletics said today that a sample taken at an out-of-competition race on August 1 revealed an "adverse finding" for the anabolic steroid Tetrahydrogestrinone (THG). The 'B sample' analysis has been conducted and confirms the finding in the 'A sample'.
Dwain Chambers, a 100m sprinter, strongly denies knowingly taking banned substances. If European record holder is found to have committed an offence, a "period of ineligibility will be imposed" - which could last up to two years.
Five sports in the UK conduct a full out-of-competition testing programme - athletics (UK Athletics), swimming (British Swimming), rugby union (Scottish Rugby Union), weightlifting and powerlifting (both British Weightlifting Association).
