16-Year-Old To Appear In Court Over School Stabbing

A 16-year-old boy is to appear in court later today, Friday, charged with the death of another teenager at a school in Aberdeen.

Bailey Gwynne, 16, died after he was stabbed at Cults Academy on 28 October.

The suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

In a statement, his family said: "There are no words. Bailey is our beloved boy and our heart. Our hearts have gone with him.

"A special son, brother, grandson and friend - he never failed to make us smile (most of the time). He will always be our boy.

"We don't know what we will do without our junior 'man about the house'.

"We need time now to look after each other and send our love to all those who care for Bailey."

Chief Inspector Graeme Mackie described the incident as "shocking and extraordinary" for Aberdeen.

"A full and thorough enquiry is underway and there will be a police presence in the area for the foreseeable future," he added.
