Witnesses Sought To Alleged Wimbledon Rape

Police have appealed for witnesses following an alleged rape in Wimbledon in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers were called at approximately 02:00 on Sunday, 25 October, by the victim, a 34-year-old woman, who stated she had been attacked 30 minutes earlier in Dundonald Recreation Ground, Dundonald Road.

The victim told officers that she was raped by a man she did not know as she was walking home alone from Wimbledon.

The victim was taken to a Haven Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

Officers from Sexual Offences, Exploitation & Child Abuse Command are investigating. No arrests have been made.

Man Arrested In Connection With Wimbledon Rape
A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged rape in the overnight queue for the Wimbledon final. It is understood that police are investigating claims of a serious sexual assault in Wimbledon Park, off Church Road, in the early hours of Sunday morning. A 30-year-old man was arrested and bailed until September, police have confirmed.

Rape Investigation Against MP Mark Pritchard Dropped
An investigation into rape allegations against Conservative MP Mark Pritchard have been dropped, Scotland Yard has confirmed. Mr Pritchard, MP for The Wrekin in Shropshire, was arrested on 2 December, however he was released on police bail. He has now been informed no further action will be taken.

Every UK police force needs to set up a specialist unit to investigate rape allegations, a senior officer has said. Speaking on behalf of the Association of Chief Police Officers, John Yates, said that such teams would "help raise standards of victim care".

Rochdale Paedophile Ringleader Named
The ringleader of a paedophile gang in Rochdale, who groomed young white girls for sex, has been named after being found guilty of 30 separate child rape charges. Shabir Ahmed, 59, led a child sex exploitation ring of nine men who targeted vulnerable young girls in the Rochdale and Oldham areas of Greater Manchester.
