Man Charged With Four Murders Between 2014 and 2015

A 40-year-old man has been charged in connection with the murder of four men between June 2014 and September 2015.

Stephen John Port, of Cooke Street, Barking, has been charged with four counts of murder and four counts of administering a poison with intent to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm, contrary to s.23 Offences Against the Persons Act 1861.

The charges relate to the deaths of:

• Anthony Patrick Walgate, 23, from Barnet, who was pronounced dead on Cooke Street, Barking on 19 June 2014.

• Gabriel Kovari, 22, from Lewisham, whose body was found near the churchyard of St Margaret's Church, North Street, Barking on 28 August 2014.

• Daniel Whitworth, 21, from Gravesend, Kent, whose body was found near the churchyard of St Margaret's Church, North Street, Barking on 20 September 2014.

• Jack Taylor, 25, from Dagenham, whose body was found near the Abbey Ruins close to North Street, Barking on Monday, 14 September.

Port will appear in custody at Barkingside Magistrates' Court today.

Inflation Drops To 0% In August
Inflation fell to 0% in August, new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have revealed. The UK's national inflation rate fell from 0.1% in July, as measured by the Consumer Price Index. The ONS figures also show that the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rose from 1.0% in July to 1.1% in August.

UK House Prices Increase By 10.2%
UK house prices rose by 10.2% in the year to June 2014, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). House price annual inflation was 10.7% in England, 3.5% in Wales, 6.0% in Scotland and 4.9% in Northern Ireland. House prices are increasing strongly across most parts of the UK, with prices in London again showing the highest growth.

Figures Show A Rise In Retail Sales
Sales in the retail industry increased by 3.6% compared to June 2013 according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The quantity bought also increased by 4.5% compare to the same time last year. In June 2014, all retail sectors showed estimated rises in the quantity bought year-on-year.

23 Charged With Drug Offences Following Raids
More than 20 people have been charged with drug offences following a number of raids carried out in London, Gravesend, Dover and Deal. A total of 23 people were arrested during twenty raids carried out over three days. The suspects, ranging in age from 17 to 52, have all been charged in connection with the supply of class A drugs.

Man Arrested Over £1m Heroin Find
A man has been arrested in connection with the seizure of heroin, with an estimated street value of £1 million. Police Scotland recovered the heroin, along with a quantity of tablets, a firearm and ammunition, during the search of a property in Inverleith Street in Carntyne. A 33-year-old man has been charged with drug find.
