Seven Arrested In Dawn Raids In Northumbria

Seven people have been arrested in a series of dawn raids across Ashington, Northumbria.

Officers executed a second strike at six addresses in the town on Thursday morning following on from a series of early morning raids on Monday.

This latest activity forms part of Operation Community Pride - a three week campaign tackling everything from suspected supply of Class A drugs through to dealing with rogue landlords, nuisance tenants, anti-social behaviour (ASB), littering, dog fouling, illegal money lending, vulnerability and domestic violence.

One man aged 46, two men aged 27, two men aged 24, one man aged 22 and a woman aged 43 were arrested on suspicion of possession and conspiracy to supply Class-A drugs.

A quantity of Class-A drugs were seized along with cash, mobile phones and laptops, all of which will be analysed by police.

Chief Inspector Jamie Pitt, of Northern Area Command, said: "These warrants follow on from raids carried out at the break of dawn on Monday where five people were charged with conspiracy to supply Class-A drugs.

"All of this activity forms just a small part of Operation Community Pride and should send a clear message to those suspected of being involved in the supply of Class-A drugs that our activity is relentless and demonstrates our commitment to removing drugs from the hands of suspected criminals and stopping them being supplied in Ashington.

"With the public's help, we can make sure we target those involved in crime at all levels - information will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence."
