Three More Arrested Over Death Of Police Officer

Two women and a man have been arrested in connection with the murder of police officer Dave Philips.

PC Philips died when he was hit by a stolen vehicle in Wallasey on Monday, 05 October.

Mr Philips was responding to reports of a burglary at a premises on Woodchurch Road when he struck by a van being driven by the burglary suspects.

A number of arrests have been made in connection with the investigation.

Georgia Clarke, 19, of Knowsley Road, Wallasey; Dawn Cooper, 34, of Wheatland Lane, Wallasey; and Michael Smith, 19, of Widmore Road are charged with assisting an offender.

They will appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today (Friday).

Woman Arrested In Connection With Daughters Death In Road Accident
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a road accident which killed her two-year-old daughter. Police have said that the woman was driving a car which left the road and hit a tree on Gibbins Road, Selly Oak, at about 16:00 on Thursday.

LG Philips plant closure to put 760 out of work
LG Philips Displays has announced that its factory in Durham is to close with the loss of 761 jobs. The firm, which produces cathode ray tubes for use in televisions and computer monitors, cited price erosion and a shift in demand from Europe to Asia Pacific as the main reasons for the closure of the north-east England plant.

LG Philips axes 1,000 jobs as factories close
Two LG Philips factories – one in Wales and one in England – are set to close with the loss of nearly 1,000 jobs, it has been announced today. At Newport, 870 jobs will be lost when production ceases in the middle of August 2003, while 71 jobs will go at Southport when that plant closes at the end of this year or early 2004.

Merger forms 'Road Block' anti-road protest group
An alliance of groups and individuals campaigning against the building of new roads has been set up under the name 'Road Block'. The campaigners behind the new association say that it has been launched in response to a proposed scheme for 200 new roads throughout the UK.

Merseyside Stabbing Victim Named
Police have identified a woman who was stabbed to death at a house in Merseyside on Sunday. Anne-Marie Cleary, a 41-year-old mother-of-two, was found at an address in Oarside Drive, Wallasey by paramedics around 2pm on Saturday. She was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital, but later died. A post-mortem revealed that she died from stab wounds.
