Two Men Die In M1 Crash

Two men have died following a collision on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire.

The crash happened at around 2am on Monday, 12 October.

It occurred close to junction 24 of the southbound carriageway and involved a blue Mazda Premacy and a white Ford transit van.

The 87-year-old driver of the Mazda and a 27-year-old, who was a passenger in the van, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van has been taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. He is said to be in a stable condition.

Prior to the collision, Leicestershire Police said it had received reports of a car travelling the wrong away along the southbound carriageway of the M1.

The southbound carriageway and one lane of the northbound remain closed between junction 25 and 24. Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Anyone who has information regarding the accident, or who saw either vehicle prior to the crash, is asked to contact police on 101.

M40 Closed After Fatal Accident
One person has died following a crash on the M40 in Oxfordshire this morning. The motorway is closed in both directions between Bicester and Banbury, after a lorry collided with two other vehicles before it crashed through the central reservation at around 6am. One of the vehicles involved was carrying oxyacetylene gas canisters.

Three killed in motorway collision
Three people have been killed in a collision on the M40 in Buckinghamshire. Eleven people were also injured in the incident, which involved between six and eight vehicles, including a lorry. The collision happened between junctions three and four on the southbound carriageway, near Loudwater.

Three Seriously Injured In M3 Minibus Crash
Three people have been seriously injured in a crash on the M3. It is thought a minibus travelling on the southbound carriageway suffered a tyre blow-out, leaving three people with "life-threatening injuries" and six others, including two children, "walking wounded" according to police.

Yorkshire Policeman Dies After HGV Accident
A policeman in Yorkshire has died after being hit by a heavy goods vehicle on a motorway while attempting to assist a woman on the hard shoulder. West Yorkshire Police have expressed their condolences to the family of 41-year-old police constable Mark Goodlad, who was killed after a collision on the M1 Southbound at around 4.15pm on Monday.

Crash Driver 'Had Done U-Turn On Motorway'
A driver, who caused a fatal car crash on the M1 motorway in Bedfordshire, was travelling in the wrong direction after doing a U-turn near roadworks, an inquest has heard. Mariusz Marcin Adamski, 24, a lorry driver from Leicester, was travelling in his VW Passsat, and performed the manoeuvre as he got to roadworks, Bedford Coroner's Court heard.
