Two Men Charged Following Series Of Thefts And Assaults In Edinburgh

Two men have been arrested and charged following four thefts and two assaults in Edinburgh.

Officers were called at around 8pm on 07 October following a report that two men with a hammer were attempting to break into vehicles in Allanfield.

An 18-year-old man was apprehended at the scene, while another 21-year-old man was later traced and arrested.

Both were charged in connection with the theft of a Honda CBF Motorbike, a pedal cycle, a theft from a taxi and a theft from a Renault Clio.

The pair were also charged in connection with assaulting two men.

They appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on 08 October.

Arrests Made Over Fatal Stabbing
Three men have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in east London earlier this year. Godwin Lawson, a 17-year-old footballer from Enfield, north London, died after he was stabbed in Stamford Hill on 27 March. Two other men, aged 18 and 20, were also stabbed during the incident.

Shopping Basket Thefts Rise After Carrier Bag Levy
A Tesco store in Oldham has fitted its shopping baskets with security tags after a sudden rise in thefts following the introduction of the carrier bag charge. It is understood that a third of the stores baskets were stolen in the week since the new charge was brought in on 04 October, according to a report by the BBC.

Police Probe Link Between Tools And Jewel Thefts
Police are investigating a possible link between the theft of power tools and a raid on the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit vault earlier this month. It is understood that police are looking into the theft of Hilti DD350 drills in December in Fetter Lane, which are believed to be the same model as the drills used in the Hatton Garden raid of 02 April.

People will be warned that buying stolen mobile phones is a waste of money in a new £500,000 advertising campaign launched by the government. The new advert designs use abbreviated text language and can be distributed via mobiles and social networking websites such as Facebook and Myspace.

'Screaming' mobile phones to deter thefts
A new system has been developed which aims to reduce the theft of mobile phones, by making them emit a high-pitched scream if they are stolen. The Remote XT system works by sending a signal to the mobile once it is reported as missing which activates the alarm.
