Employees Return To Work Following Explosives Discovery

Construction workers have returned to work on the new Queensferry Crossing site after the discovery of explosive materials during roadworks.

Workers discovered demolition materials at 5pm on Wednesday during utility diversion works around the north approach roads close to the Crossing.

The alarm was raised at 11am and experts from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) carried out a controlled explosion at 5:30pm.

The Forth Road and Forth Rail Bridges were also closed during Wednesday as a precaution.

Ch Insp Irene Ralston said: "Exposed wires were discovered today at the Queensferry Crossing, and while this poses no immediate risk to the public, as a precaution we are compelled to close the Forth Road Bridge and the M90."
