Warning Issued After Man And Woman Impersonate Police Officers

Avon and Somerset Police have urged people to be vigilant following reports of people impersonating police offices in South Bristol.

Police said they received a report of a man and a woman calling at a house in Claypiece Road, Hartcliffe, at about 01:15 on Thursday, 17 September, claiming to be police officers.

They went on to ask the woman to open the door and told her that she needed to come with them because a family member had been in an accident. When she refused they left and got into a car described as a new shape blue Ford Fiesta.

The man is described as white, very slim, about 6' in height, clean shaven, in his 40's with a local accent.

The woman is described as white, 5'1''-5'6'' in height, medium to heavy build, long blonde hair in a pony-tail, hooped earrings, a nose stud, dark eye make-up, with a local accent.

Both were wearing dark trousers, white shirts under black zip up jackets with reflective panels across the midrift and black flat police type hats but without any markings or badges. In addition neither had epaulettes or collar numbers displayed.

Police have appealed to anyone with any information, or anyone who was in the area at the time, to contact them.

Things people are advised to look out for should people call to their home claiming to be officers, include:

• Always ask to see identification if anyone, claiming to be an official from an agency or utility company, calls at your home unexpectedly.

• If you are in doubt then do not open the door. A genuine official will not mind making an appointment to come back another time.

• If you see anything suspicious in your area, report it to police via 101.

• If you feel you are in danger call 999 immediately.
