Man Charged With Hemel Hempstead Murder And Attempted Kidnapping

A man has been charged with murder, two counts of kidnap and burglary, in connection with an incident in Hemel Hempstead on Monday, 14 September.

The body of a woman, named as Nicola Cross (37), was discovered at a house in the Dunlin Road area at about 23:30 on Monday night.

Police had been called to Dunlin Road around an hour earlier to reports of a man acting suspiciously. Police are understood to have "spoken with" the man before leaving. They were called back to another address on the same street to reports of a burglary.

While attending the scene police became aware of another incident at a third house. Entering the house, police discovered Ms Cross's body.

25-year-old Marcin Porczynski, from Claymore Avenue, Hemel Hempstead, has been charged with murder, two counts of kidnap and a burglary at a neighbouring property in Dunlin Road.

He is due to appear before Hatfield Remand Court today, Thursday.

A 19-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle has been released on police bail until September 24.

Detective Chief Inspector Jerome Kent from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said: "Nicola's family remain forefront in our minds at this extremely tragic time. The children are safe and with family, who continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

"We fully appreciate the events of Monday night have also significantly impacted the wider community however, I would like to reassure you that this was a tragic and isolated incident, the events of which are highly unusual within Hertfordshire. Officers remain in the area to offer reassurance and residents are encouraged to talk to them if they have any concerns.

"We also understand people want answers but as you can imagine this has been and remains an extremely complex investigation. As a man has now been charged it is important for us not to speculate further to ensure the justice system can run its course."
