Queen Opens £294m Borders Railway

The Queen has opened a new railway between Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.

Her Majesty, who has been named Britain's longest serving monarch today, 09 September, was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

The line between Tweedbank and Edinburgh was opened to the public on 06 September.

The Borders Railway is the UK's longest domestic line to open in a century.

It was funded by Transport Scotland/the Scottish Government and was developed by Network Rail.

Police Appeal For Help Over Ongoing Flasher Incidents
North Yorkshire Police have appealed for information on a number of flasher incidents in the Harrowgate area since 2007. Police do not know if the incidents are the crimes of one man or different offenders, as descriptions vary.

Businessman Fined Over Damage To Ancient Woods
Natural England has won its case against a businessman in Cumbria who was found to have caused damage to an ancient woodland on his land. Philip Day was order to pay a fine of £450,000 and court fees of £475,000 in connection with the felling of trees and the excavation of land in order to build an access track in Gelt Woods.

Ryanair Postpones Opening Of Edinburgh Base
Low-fares airline Ryanair has been forced to postpone the opening of its new Edinburgh base for six weeks, due to strike action at airplane manufacturer Boeing. Ryanair said that the strike had resulted in Boeing being unable to deliver two 737 planes which the airline had purchased to operate on its new Edinburgh routes.

Police Search Forest In Murder Probe
Detectives are continuing their investigation over the suspected murder of an Edinburgh woman who went missing on the morning of 4 May. Their search has led them to a forest in Argyll where police believe her body may have been dumped. Suzanne Pilley, 38, went missing after reaching her office in the city's Thistle Street area.

Child killed in playground accident
A three-year-old girl has died after accidentally hanging herself on a climbing frame in a playground in Scotland. It is understood that Charley McCraw became entangled in a rope attached to the climbing frame in the park near Maitland Hog Lane in the village of Kirkliston, near Edinburgh, around 3:25pm on Tuesday.
