Emergency services at scene of 20-car M5 pile-up

Police are currently attending a major road traffic collision on the M5 reportedly involving up to 20 vehicles.

Early indications indicate that around 20 vehicles have been involved in the collision on the M5 northbound between junction 20 at Clevedon and Portishead at junction 19.

All emergency services are currently attending the incident, although it is not yet known the extent of any injuries suffered by those involved.

The M5 northbound is currently closed from junction 20 and is due to be closed from junction 21 at Weston very soon.

All traffic off the M5 northbound is being diverted off the motorway along the A370 and A38 roads.

Traffic is expected to be extremely heavy and police have advised road users to avoid the M5 if at all possible.

Woman Dies After Being Hit By A Lorry On M3
A woman has been killed while walking along the side of a motorway in Surrey. The woman, who has not yet been named, was struck by a lorry just after midnight on the M3 at Lightwater, near junction three. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood that police found a vehicle parked nearby, which is thought to have belonged to the woman.

M5 Shutdown After Lorry Overturns
The M5 motorway has been shutdown after a lorry overturned and spilt its load and diesel across the road. According to reports the lorry, carry pallets of paper, struck the central reservation at around 07:00 this morning causing the closure. The driver suffered head injuries in the incident and is being treated at Frenchay Hospital.

Man Sentenced To 20 Years For Burying Fiancée Alive
A 25-year-old man has been found guilty of the attempted murder of his fiancee. Marcin Kasprzak, of Penistone Road, Huddersfield, has been sentenced at Leeds Crown Court to 20 years in prison. On 28 May 2011 Kasprzak attacked bride-to-be Michelina Lewandowska, 27, at their home with a taser then bound, gagged and placed her in a cardboard box.

Wider Use Of 20mph Zones
New proposals to allow councils to put in place 20 mph schemes over groups of streets without the need for traffic calming measures such as speed humps had been announced by Road Safety Minister Paul Clark.

Jewellery 'Solves' M5 Bones Mystery
It has emerged that items of jewellery found with human remains found on a motorway sliproad near Bristol helped identify the body. Police are now sure that the remains are that of Melanie Hall who disappeared 13 years ago. The 25-year-old psychology graduate, from Bradford Leigh, Wiltshire, disappeared in June 1996 after a night out in Bath.
