Thieves Rob Harvey Nichols In Leeds City Centre
An investigation has been launched after thieves drove a car into the entrance of Harvey Nichols in Leeds city centre.
A silver Ford Mondeo was driven into the entrance of the store at about 04:20 this morning before a man stole a quantity of perfume and aftershave.
Detective Inspector John Dexter of Leeds District CID, said: "Initial enquiries are ongoing into this incident and officers are on scene this morning.
"I would ask anyone who has any information about what has taken place to contact Leeds District CID on 101. Information can also be given to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."
Heavy Rain Leads To Spike In Flood-Related Calls To LFB
London Fire Brigade (LFB) have reported a spike in reports of flooding due to heavy rain.
LFB said they received more than 110 flood-related calls between 13:30 and 16:30
London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Control staff did a tremendous job at taking such a huge number of calls in a short amount of time. They were able to keep anyone distressed calm and dispatch firefighters to incidents as quickly as possible."
Suspected Firearm Recovered From Liverpool River
Merseyside Police are appealing for information after what is believed to be a firearm was recovered from a river in Aintree.
Offices were called to the scene at 18:00 on Wednesday, 26 August, after a member of the public reported finding the weapon – which appears to be a rifle – in the River Alt, near to Wango Lane.
The weapon was recovered and a search of the area is to be carried out by the Underwater Search Unit.
Detective Inspector Mike Leyland said: "We need to establish if it is a fully active weapon with a view to conducting further examinations."

Shadow Chancellor Fined For Failing To Stop After An Accident
Leeds Magistrates Court has fined shadow chancellor Ed Balls £900 for failing to stop after a a car crash in April. According to a report by the BBC, Mr Balls was fined and given five penalty points for driving away after his car hit a parked car outside Labour's Unity Club in Morley, West Yorkshire on 05 April.

Leeds Nightclub Disturbance Men Bailed
Five men have been bailed after being arrested for a disturbance outside a nightclub in Leeds. The incident occurred this morning in The Calls area of Leeds City Centre. Five other men suffered injuries and are being treated at Leeds General Infirmary for stab wounds.

Ofcom Fines BBC £150k Over Prank Calls
The BBC has been fined £150,000 by Ofcom over prank phone calls made by Russell Brand (pictured) and Jonathan Ross to actor Andrew Sachs. The sum related to the two episodes of the Russell Brand show broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on the 18 and 25 October 2008. In its report, the media regulator found the broadcasts had breached it's Broadcasting Code.

Scarborough drowning tragedy victims named
A mother and her son who drowned in a tragic accident yesterday have been named as Kim Barrett, 33 and Luke Greenwood, 11. Coastguards are continuing to search for Ms Barrett's daughter, 13-year-old Aimee Greenwood.
