68-Year-Old Jailed For Historical Sexual Abuse

A 68-year-old man has been jailed for 15 years having pleaded guilty to six counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault.

Edward Watson, formerly of Kippington Road, Sevenoaks, appeared before Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday 04 August, charged with the rape and abuse of a teenage girl on multiple occasions in the 1980s.

The court heard that the abuse began in 1982 when the girl was aged 13, and continued until 1985.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Deniz Aslan said: "These are very serious offences which are reflected in the length of time Watson will now spend behind bars.

"I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case who displayed tremendous courage in coming forward and reporting the crimes committed against her, and for her invaluable support in bringing Watson to justice.

"Kent Police takes all reports of historic sexual abuse seriously and I would like to assure victims that their reports will be thoroughly investigated no matter the length of time that has passed since the incident occurred."
