Man Booker Prize Longlist Announced
The longlist of the 2015 Man Booker Prize has been announced, featuring authors from around the world.
This year’s longlist of 13 books was selected by a panel of five judges, chaired by Michael Wood, and also comprising Ellah Wakatama Allfrey, John Burnside, Sam Leith and Frances Osborne. The judges considered 156 books for this year’s prize.
This is the second year that the prize, first awarded in 1969, has been open to writers of any nationality, writing originally in English and published in the UK. Previously, the prize was open only to authors from the UK & Commonwealth, Republic of Ireland and Zimbabwe.
A shortlist of six will be unveiled on 15 September, with the overall winner to be announced on 13 October.
Woman Arrested By Counter Terrorism Unit At Birmingham Airport
Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman at Birmingham Airport on suspicion of preparing to travel to Syria to engage in terrorist acts.
Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit detained the Leicester woman at 9.40am this morning.
The woman's home address and another, associated address are currently being searched.
Police said that there were three children travelling with the woman. Officers are working with partner agencies to ensure their welfare is safeguarded.
Vehicle Theory Tests Price Reduced
The cost of car and motorcycle theory tests is to be reduced from October.
From 01 October a car and motorcycle theory test will cost £23, down from £25.
Theory test fees for other types of vehicle will also be reduced.
The changes were announced in 2014, and follow costs being cut from £31 to £25 in October 2014 .

Church Asked To Support Fast-Track Women Bishops Law
The first woman bishop in the Church of England could be appointed by Christmas. The general synod supports the legislation to fast-track the revision of the latest proposals and to reduce the time given to individual dioceses. This could lead to a final vote in July with the legislation approved by November.

Disabled Woman Found Dead In Car
A disabled woman found stabbed to death in her car near her home in Harlow, Essex, has been named. Jennifer Macaree was discovered in Hadley Grange on the outskirts of Harlow early on Saturday. Essex Police confirmed she was in the driver's seat of her black Vauxhall Corsa in a parking area near her flat shortly after 3am.

Baby Death Mother Named
The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named. Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday. Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.

Man arrested over canal torso find
A man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's torso in a suitcase which was floating in London's Regent's Canal. Police were called to the Regents Canal in Islington on Saturday after a group of teenagers spotted a suitcase floating in the water. They managed to pull the case from the water and discovered a human torso inside.
