Seven Charged With Port Of Felixstowe Heroin Find

Seven men have been arrested in connection with the seizure of heroin at the Port of Felixstowe in August, 2014.

Border Force officers uncovered the heroin, worth an estimated £3.1m, on 26 August last year. It was concealed within industrial machinery imported from Pakistan.

The heroin was removed and NCA investigators watched as the machinery was transported to an industrial estate in Desford, Leicestershire, where it was unloaded and taken to another industrial estate in the Tyseley area of Birmingham.

Between 6 September 2014 and 22 June 2015 a number of arrests were made.

Garry Campbell, aged 57, from Nethy Bridge, Inverness; Mark Regan, aged 43, from Burnaston Road, Hall Green; Andrew Lillis, aged 46, from High Beech, Coventry; Trevor Connor, aged 40, from Holmwood Road, Small Heath; Darren Clarke, aged 52, from Tamworth Road, Kingsbury; and Skinder Ali, aged 36, from Charminster Avenue, Yardley, were charged this week with conspiracy to import heroin. Mark Asson, aged 53, from Tulip Walk, Chelmsley Wood, was charged with assisting in an act of an organised crime group.

All seven men have been released on conditional bail and are due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 13 August.
