Possible Artillery Shells Prompts Evacuation

An evacuation has taken place after two possible artillery mortar shells were found in a garden in Stratford-upon-Avon.

A member the public reported the discovery at approximately 8.35am today 1 July.

The Banbury Road between Trinity Way and Dale Avenue, along with parts of Saturn Way and Mercury Drive were evacuated.

Bomb disposal experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) carried out a controlled explosion.

The roads reopened at 12.25pm.

UK To Aid Libyan Civilians

Speaking to the BBC, Andrew Mitchell said the money would help migrant workers trapped in the city of Misrata. Evacuation Follows Recycling Plant Blaze
Up to 80 people have been evacuated from their homes after a large fire broke out at a recycling plant in the West Midlands. The blaze at AWM Recycling by Southern Way, Wednesbury, West Midlands, started at about 4.00am on Wednesday. It was under control by 7.30am, the fire service confirmed.

UK begins evacuation of British citizens in Lebanon
The first Royal Navy warship has arrived in Beirut to begin evacuating British citizens from Lebanon. The HMS Gloucester is expected to to take around 100 of the most high priority cases, including pregnant women and children, to Cyprus.

Relatives’ anger at tsunami inquest
Relatives of 91 Britons killed in the Asian tsunami have expressed anger at a coroner’s inquiry into their deaths. Liz Jones, whose 23-year-old daughter Charlotte died in the Boxing Day disaster, said an early warning system could have saved her daughter’s life.

Bus blaze kills elderly passengers fleeing 'Rita'
As the mass evacuation from the encroaching hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico continued, a bus fire was reported to have killed at least 24 elderly people fleeing the area on Friday. The bus was destroyed in the blaze which caused a massive tailback on already congested main Interstate route just south of Dallas.
