Life Sentence For Man Who Murdered His Mother

Alex McDonald has been jailed for thirty years for the murder of his mother, Catherine.

The 27-year-old, of Hilly Park, Norton Fitzwarren, appeared before Exeter Crown Court on Wednesday morning after being convicted yesterday of murdering his mother Catherine.

Catherine McDonald’s body was found by police officers at her home in Norton Fitzwarren on Tuesday 30 September 2014.

She had died from asphyxiation and stab wounds. There was a sexual element to the offence.

Memorial Service For Murdered Couple
A memorial service has been held for murdered honeymooners Ben and Catherine Mullany, and the Duchess of York joined mourners at the service. Duchess Sarah Ferguson read a poem at Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff, and also spoke of her decision to become a patron of the charity which was set up to support other medical students.

Man Jailed For Mothers Murder In Somerset Village
A man has been found guilty at Exeter Crown Court of the murder of his mother at her home in the village of Norton Fitzwarren in Somerset. 27-year-old Alex McDonald, of Hilly Park in the village, was convicted on Tuesday, 23 June. He is due to be sentenced today (Wednesday).

Arrest Bid Leaves WPC 'Critical'
A female police officer is in a critical condition after being hit by a car driven by a man she was trying to arrest. Det Con Catherine Corbett, 39, from the West Midlands force, suffered head injures in the incident, in Hayes, west London. The suspect fled - driving off in the car - knocking the officer over as he speeded away.
