Rifle Found In Merseyside Park

An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a firearm in Croxteth Park, Merseyside, yesterday.

A member of the public is said to have found the rifle while out walking on Tuesday.

Police confirmed that the weapon was real and operational.

Detective Sergeant John Desmond from the Matrix Serious Organised Crime Unit said: "Information from the community about where weapons are being hidden is vital. This recovery means that there is now one less firearm on our streets that could be used to cause fear and intimidation.

"We are determined to do all we can to crack down on serious and organised crime and protect members of the public from the criminal minority."
