IPCC Investigate Police Custody Death
The death of a woman in police custody is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Surrey Police said the woman, who was in her 40s, died at Guildford police station on 1 June.
She had been arrested at approximately 3am on 30 May.
The woman was suspected to have entered a property in Park Barn, Guildford.
She received hospital treatment after her arrest and was later returned to custody.
The suspect was found unresponsive during a health care check at 7.20am on 1 June and was declared dead a short time afterward.
Police said the woman was assessed by healthcare professionals while awaiting transfer to court.
An independent investigation has been launched by the IPCC.
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Cundy said: "Surrey Police is deeply saddened by this death and our sympathy is with the lady's family at this difficult time. With the IPCC we will support the family throughout the investigation."
Mr Cundy added the Surrey Force will cooperate fully with the IPCC investigation.

A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Deepcut investigation criticised in new report
The Surrey Police investigation into the deaths of recruits at the Deepcut army barracks has been criticised by another police force. Devon and Cornwall Police’s report into the deaths for four recruits at the barracks concluded that Surrey Police narrowed the focus of the inquiry by concentrating too much on suicide as the most likely outcome.

Over 1,000 Police Names Passed to IPCC In Hillsborough Investigation
1,444 serving and former police officers have been passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as part of its investigation into the Hillsborough disaster. Keith Vaz, the Home Affairs Committee chairman, told MPs the "huge number" had been revealed to him in a letter from South Yorkshire Police's chief constable.
