Man Who Deliberately Drove At Police Jailed For Two Years

A man who deliberately drove at a police officer after speeding through a traffic stop has been jailed for two years.

Michael Oluwafemi Adenibi, 22, failed to stop for police carrying out vehicle checks on 02 October last year. As Mr Adenibi slowed that red Ford Focus he was driving as he approached the vehicle stop, only to veer around officers, cross the central traffic island and sped away driving up the wrong side of the road against oncoming traffic.

He was not pursued by the officers as he was driving the wrong way into Hammersmith's one-way system, but details of his vehicle were circulated across the police network.

An unmarked police car spotted Mr Adenibi driving the wrong way towards them and blocked the road with their car.

As Mr Adenibi approached the road block he drove straight at PC Sue Thomson, throwing the officer into the air before she landed on the bonnet of another car and following onto the road. The officer was knocked unconscious and suffered concussion.

At Isleworth Crown Court Mr Adenibi was found guilty of actual bodily harm and dangerous driving. He was also found to have been driving without a valid licence and without vehicle insurance.

Chief Superintendent Gideon Springer, Borough commander of Hammersmith and Fulham, said: "This was a serious and deliberate attempt to injure one of my officers to evade arrest and could quite easily have proved fatal.

"PC Thomson is a credit to not only Hammersmith and Fulham police but the Metropolitan Police Service and this is a typical example of the courage and professionalism demonstrated by our officers in London on a daily basis."
