Three Men Sought Over Serious Assault In West Midlands
West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses of an attack on two brothers who tried to intervene in an argument.
Police are searching for three men believed to have attacked the brothers outside a Sedgley pub in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It is understood that a 19-year-old man and his brother was waiting for a lift when they saw a woman in distress involved in what appeared to be a violent argument in a parked car.
The man is said to have approached the car and tried to intervene when the driver got out and started to hurl abuse at him. Moments later the three suspects walked up Ettymore Road and one of the men swung a punch at the victim, causing him to stumble backwards.
His brother was then punched to the floor as he tried to stop the attack and the pair were kicked as they lay on the ground, before their attackers ran off towards the Bull Ring and got into a taxi.
Detective Constable Simon Cooper, from the violent crime team of Force CID, based at Smethwick, said: "It seems as though these two young men have just been trying to help a woman who was in distress but ended up needing treatment in A&E for their trouble.
"It's not clear if the three men who attacked the brothers even know the man who was involved in the argument with the girl, or just saw it as an opportunity to get involved in some late night violence.
"Either way we want to trace them and urge anyone who recognises the men captured on CCTV to call us with information."
Both men needed stitches to facial injuries as a result of the attack.
Anyone with information should call the violent crime team in Force CID at Smethwick police station by dialling 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
