Residents Warned To Keep Windows Closed After Recycling Plant Fire
Residents in Salford and surrounding areas are being urged to keep all windows and doors closed following a large fire at a waste recycling plant.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services responded to reports of smoke at Westport House on Frederick Road at about 23:00 on Sunday night.
It is understood that fire crews found a "large amount of recycling waste on fire" at JWS Waste.
Group Manager Jon Aspinall said: "When crew arrived they were greeted with a large fire and a lot of smoke. We are currently working hard with the site owners to get control of the fire as quickly as possible.
"In addition to fighting the fire, we are also conducting an environmental plan to make sure that any water used is disposed of safely.
"I would like to ask local residents to keep their windows and doors closed until further notice. Frederick Road is currently closed to traffic but we will endeavour to re-open the road as quickly as possible."
A number of firefighters remain at the scene monitoring the situation.
