Nursing Home Residents Evacuated During Fire
All residents of a nursing home in Sutton had to be evacuated in the early hours of Wednesday morning due to a fire.
Six engines and 30 firefighters responded to reports of a fire on the Avenue in Cheam just before 2am.
It is understood that the fire affected the top floor and roof space of the three storey home. All residents and staff were safely evacuated and there were no reports of any injuries.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) Station Manager Simon Brownings who was at the scene said: “When they arrived crews were faced with a serious fire affecting the top floor and roof space of the home. Firefighters worked hard to bring it under control and thankfully the property was safely evacuated.”
LFB said that the incident ended at about 4am, but a number of firefighters remain at the scene, monitoring the situation.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike

Firefighters in Glasgow have fought a blaze at a church in the city over night. Emergency services where alerted to the fire on Crossloan Road, Govan at about 22:30 on Sunday. Residents in a neighbouring four-storey tenement had to be evacuated during the incident, with a number of them put up in emergency accommodation.

More than 200 people have been forced to evacuate their homes following a fire at a chemical plant in Herefordshire. Around 80 firefighters from several counties were sent to tackle the blaze at the Skymark plant on Southern Avenue in Leominster, Herefordshire, which started at 3.30am this morning.

60 Children Evacuated After Chemical Spill
Sixty children and two adults were evacuated from a school on Peaks Hill in Purley as a precautionary measure following reports of a chemical leak in South London on Thursday. London Fire Brigade said that the leak was found to have occurred in a small storage unit.
