PM Pledges To Extend Right-To-Buy Scheme

Launching the Conservative party's general election manifesto, the Prime Minister has pledged to extend the right-to-buy scheme for housing association tenants in England.

David Cameron described the Conservatives as the "party of working people", and promised that some 1.3 million tenants in England would be able to buy their homes at a discount when the scheme is extended.

Other Conservative pledges include:

• minimum wage workers to be taken out of income tax

• lifting the inheritance tax threshold to £1m by 2017

• an extra £8bn a year for the NHS by 2020.

Mr Cameron is expected to say the Conservatives offer "security at every stage of your life" and warn of the risk of electing Labour.

"My message to Britain is this: we have come this far together. Let's not waste the past five years."

The manifesto is to be published in full today.
