Anti-Nuclear Protesters Block Gates To Naval Base

A group of protesters have blocked access to the Faslane naval base on the Clyde in an effort to stop workers from entering.

The protesters are from the Scrap Trident campaign and is said to be the first is a series of actions planned by the group.

The group said it wants to bring attention to the UK's nuclear deterrent, and want to see it scrapped, in the lead up the general election.

Protesters began chaining themselves to the gates of the facility at 7am on Monday and plan to remain at the site until three o'clock this afternoon.

It is understood police have been using cutting equipment to remove protesters and one person has been arrested.

A group of tree-top protesters, who have been living in trees at Stapleton Allotments for over a month, are to be removed today. Bristol City Council said that a number of "security specialists" began evicting members of the Rising Up group at about 07:40 on Thursday morning.

More protesters board plane at Prestwick
Five more protesters have been arrested at Prestwick airport after boarding an aircraft in the third security breach at the airport in three days.
