Cameron Makes Volunteer Law Pledge

David Cameron has announced plans to offer workers three days' paid leave to do volunteer work.

Under the election proposal, a new law would be passed requiring public sector employers with more than 250 staff, to grant workers up to three days leave per year to do voluntary work. It is understood the employers would be required to cover the cost of the initiative.

Describing it as the "clearest demonstration of the Big Society in action" Mr Cameron said that the move would represent a "double win" for both employees and communities.

BBC home editor Mark Easton, said that the announcement was a "reminder of the Big Society theme from 2010, which many thought had been binned".
